Dave & Betsy Smith "Beyond Off Duty Survival" (Galveston)

In this highly charged and entertaining class, Dave and Betsy Smith teach officers what off duty threats they may face and how to respond safely and tactically. They also discuss family firearms safety, officer ambush, levels of risk, home attacks and how to bring your family into “the law enforcement world” in a safe and healthy manner. But this class goes “beyond off duty survival” and provides attendees with real-world solutions, resources and tips to not only win on the street but “WIN” at life.

About Dave Smith

Former police lieutenant Dave Smith is an internationally known speaker, writer and law enforcement expert. Dave attended United States Naval Academy and then completed his degree at University of Arizona while fighting forest fires with the “Coconino Hot Shots.” He began his police career with the Tucson Police Department and in 1978 he joined the Arizona Department of Public Safety. As a career police officer, Dave held positions in Patrol, SWAT, Narcotics, Training and Management. In 1980 he developed the popular “Buck Savage” video training series, was the lead instructor for the Calibre Press “Street Survival” seminar from 1983 to 1985, and was instrumental in developing Calibre’s timeless “Tactical Edge” officer survival book. Dave holds numerous instructor certifications in firearms, defensive tactics, and human performance and is a proven expert witness and consultant. In 1989, Dave joined the Law Enforcement Television Network (LETN), developing and hosting cutting-edge police, security and public safety training as its Director of Education and was the general manager of Calibre Press until January of 2002. Dave continued to instruct the “Street Survival” seminar through 2012 as its senior instructor and he managed the most comprehensive update to the seminar since 2003. Dave has authored hundreds of articles for publications including Police Chief, Law and Order, The Trainer, Police Marksman, the Calibre Press Newsline, PoliceOne and POLICE magazine. Dave currently trains through “Winning Mind Seminars” and is a regular columnist for POLICE magazine, Officer.com and PoliceOne.Com. Dave is also the Director of Video Training for the online Police One Academy. He is available for conferences, training events, and consulting, and is the author of the popular book In My Sights.
About Betsy Smith

Sgt. Betsy Brantner Smith, retired in 2009 as a 29-year veteran of the Naperville, IL Police Department. Beginning her career as a police dispatcher at age 17, Betsy became a police officer four years later and has held positions in patrol, investigations, narcotics, juvenile, hostage negotiation, crime prevention and field training. She received her four year degree from Western Illinois University in 1991, and was a class officer and graduate of the Northwestern University Center for Public Safety’s School of Staff and Command in May of 2001. As a sergeant, she supervised her department’s K-9 Unit, served as a field training sergeant, recruitment team sergeant, bike patrol coordinator, Crowd Control Bike Team leader, and supervisor of the Community Education/Crime Prevention Unit. Betsy served on the Elderly Services Team, the Crisis Intervention Team, and was a proud founding supervisory member of NPD’s Honor Guard Unit. From 1999 – 2003 Betsy hosted various programs and was a content expert for the Law Enforcement Television Network (LETN), is currently an on-air commentator and advisor for the Police One Academy and was a featured character in the Biography Channel’s “Female Forces” reality show. She has been a law enforcement trainer for over 20 years and was a content expert and senior instructor for the Calibre Press “Street Survival” seminar from 2003 through 2012. Betsy is a popular keynote speaker at conferences and events throughout the United States, Canada and around the world.
Together, Betsy and Dave develop and instruct cutting edge courses through Winning Mind Seminars and travel extensively, bringing their inspirational messages throughout the world.

Our registration system is designed to collect all the information needed to facilitate the reporting of hours to TCOLE. We will have a pre-printed roster at the training site so all you have to do is verify your information and initial, rather than having to manually sign in on the roster. To do this, we need your help to make sure we have your information in advance of the class.

You already have an account in our database system. Please log into your existing account to register. Do not create a new account.
You may need to reset your password if you have not logged in before. If you have trouble locating your account or resetting your password, it is probably because we do not have an e-mail address on file for you or it is an old e-mail address that you are not using anymore. You can e-mail Chris Jones (chris.jones@cleat.org) and we will reset your account using the e-mail address you used to send the e-mail. Or you can call Kristi Hill at the Austin office (512-495-9111) for immediate assistance. If you are logging in for the first time, please update your contact information, PID, DOB, etc. Click the link at the top - "Welcome, Your Name" to access and edit your membership information.
NON MEMBERS
Create a new account. Make sure you enter your department or agency in the "Primary Organization" field when creating the account. If you are retired, enter the agency followed by retired. If you are not affiliated with an agency but wish to attend to keep your TCOLE hours current, enter "None". Once you have logged in, you can also update your contact information, PID and DOB for the roster. Click the link at the top - "Welcome, Your Name" to access and edit your information.
COMPLETING REGISTRATION:
After logging in, go to the specific event you are interested in registering for. If you are not on the event page, click events at the top of the page and this will take you to the training schedule. When viewing a specific event, there will be button that reads "Register Myself". After clicking this button, click the button that appears at the bottom of the page, "Proceed to Check Out". This will bring up the confirmation page. If there is a fee for the event, you will be able to enter payment information. If not, simply click the button at the bottom "Submit Order" to finalize the registration.
